Maisonette within a Grade II listed Eaton Square terrace in Belgravia. The client had out grown their apartment in Belgrave Square and was looking for a larger flat with more outside space in the area. The client was unable to find a suitably large apartment and settled on purchasing 3 adjoining flats on the ground and lower ground floors with a view to combining these. The Victorian terrace had been converted in the 1950’s to form smaller flats by breaking through the dividing walls between the former townhouses. As the walls were the main structure and also contained the apartment block’s service and fireplace flues, the old apartment layouts were not ideal. To form one apartment from 3 that flowed, these large structural walls need to be adapted without disrupting the 4 floors of occupied apartments above. In addition the Victorian terrace and its subsequent mid 20th century alterations did not provide 21st century level of comfort and the challenge was to integrate and upgrade 3 sets of services, power, digital, gas water and drainage to provide modern levels of comfort.
